These women are already turning out beautiful products |
1. Women's Sewing Business: There are a few community projects that our team will be implementing while in Kenya. The first of which is assisting a project that has already been started by John Njane and some American missionaries in the Kijabe area of Kenya. We will be purchasing cloth and paying the women in the new sewing business to make school uniforms for some of the street boys and IDP children who cannot go to school because of the cost of a uniform. This will support both the needs of the women who have the new sewing business and it will aid in sending these kids to school.
2. Chicken Farm: The second project is to help start a small chicken farm in one of the IDP camps that will be operated by some of the men as a business to earn an income for them. For the first year of operation, the men in charge will be responsible for paying a weekly number of eggs to John Njane, who will distribute eggs in his monthly widow/orphan feeding program. The average cost of a laying chicken in Kenya is 300 KES which is a little less than $4. God willing this will become a self sustaining operation for a few men and women and will help them care for their own people.
3. Children's Playground: Nathan and I felt from the start that building a small playground in the community for the children would be a wonderful way of ministering to them and to their families. We have built playgrounds in the past in Sudan and were incredibly blessed to see the resulting smiles.
